The Albuquerque Tricentennial Celebration continues with special events during the summer months in Tiguex Tricentennial Park, 1800 Mountain Rd. NW. These events will take place on the new outdoor stage at the park on Saturdays from 11-12:30. The public is invited to picnic in the park and enjoy these free events as part of the Tricentennial Celebration. Saturday, August 12 features Hot Salsa! Listen and dance to the music of Cafe Mocha, one of Albuquerque's hottest salsa bands, brewing an exciting blend of Son, Cha-Cha, Merengue, and other Latin styles.
Saturday, August 19 Enjoy The New Mexican Marimba Band, featuring historian/performer/composer/collector, Steve Chavez and John Bartlitt. The band recently returned from a performance in Berlin and received standing ovations at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. You’ll even get a chance to play with the band.
Saturday, August 26 The Tricentennial Summer Fiestas will close with an exuberant performance by The Watermelon Mountain Jug Band, who have been delighting audiences, young and old, since 1975. True to the original 1920’s jug bands, their music comes alive with washboard, jug, kazoo, washtub bass, spoons, guitar and banjo. Join in the fun as we distribute Tricentennial Kazoos and Tatoos!
Tricentennial Tiguex Park is located at 1800 Mountain Road NW. On Interstate 40, heading west from the I-25 interchange, turn south on Rio Grande Blvd., then left (east) on Mountain Road.
